“The people were friendly and delightful. The Azores were a natural beauty, with the twin volcanic lakes of Sao Miguel Island simply breathtaking. Lisbon was a wonderful city, with many beautiful buildings, and much, much to see. Shopping on Rossio Square with my mom was wonderful. We were never treated like tourists; we were treated like honored guests. Our only complaint was there simply wasn’t enough time to see it all…we were on the Grand Princess cruising the Mediterranean…

 “We went into one of the oldest jewelers in the city, W. A. Sarmento’s, at the Elevador de Santa Justa, and bought some very beautiful gifts of gold and silver filigree jewelry for ourselves and family. All of the gold is 19 karat by Portuguese law…and the prices were better than Italy, and the color was so rich. Beautiful fisher’s sweaters, hand knitted, were another great buy, as were gorgeous pottery pieces and tiles.

 “The trip was a dream come true for Mom. She is Portuguese on both sides of her family, so it was wonderful to watch her enjoy herself in her homeland. She wants to go back, and so do I!”
